Winter is not exactly very good for the human body, the various climate changes brought about by this season affecting us (both physically and mentally) in a pretty adverse manner. For this reason, the medical-oriented branch of Philips has just launched the goLITE BLU, a device that, by using the power of light, will try to keep our spirits high through this rather depressing period.

As Dan Adams, a research manager at Philips Home Healthcare Solutions declares, results can be felt within a few days with as little 15 to 20 minutes of use per day. “The goLITE BLU represents significant improvements in portable blue light therapy,” says Adams. “Science has shown that to stimulate the body clock we don’t need intense white light. This is because a person’s body clock can respond up to two times greater to blue light than to white light and white light is 50 times more intense. Our Bluewave technology, which is incorporated into the goLITE BLU, dramatically reduces the overall intensity of light as compared to bright white therapy devices and can help minimize potential side effects such as eyestrain, glare and headaches.”

The device from Philips emits a soft, even comfortable light that helps eliminate the harsh glare and contrast problems associated with traditional light therapy products. It sports a wide viewing field, as to enable the user to perform routine activities while using the device, as well as a sleek design that makes the device easy to use, pack and store.

The goLITE BLU measures 5.3 x 5.5 inches and weighs around 12 ounces, and has been fitted with a built-in clock and timer, rechargeable battery and protective storage case for convenient transport from home to office or while traveling. Plus, controlling it is quite an easy task, since the device sports backlit touch screen controls that are simple to use and program.

Even if the goLITE BLU might seem a bit on the expensive side at a first look (suggested retail price of around 280 US dollars), the truth is that it's one device worth purchasing, especially if it really manages to carry out all the advertised features.
