The second Philips full touchscreen handset

It looks like Philips will soon unveil its second full touchscreen mobile phone, after the X800 model that surfaced a few days ago. The new touchscreen handset is called Xenium X-Connect and it's said to bring more advanced features than the ones packed in X800.

We had only a few details about the X800 until now, but it seems the device will hit the market in the next months, for an unannounced price, as some of its official specifications appeared today on several websites. According to these specs, the X800 sports a 2.9 inch touchscreen display with a wide 240 x 400 pixel resolution, 262K colors and handwriting recognition, microSD card slot to boost the internal memory (no word yet about its size), Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus and a long-lasting battery that should keep the phone running for up to 8 hours in talk-time mode and up to no less than 850 hours in stand-by.

Apparently, the X800 offers only tri-band GSM connectivity with GPRS, so there's no 3G and not even EDGE. Anyway, we have to wait for the handset's full list of features to be sure.

Philips Xenium X-Connect is for now only a rumor, but a very nice looking one. Among its features we have a powerful 624 MHz Intel processor, a 3 inch touchscreen display, GSM, UMTS and HSDPA connectivity, built-in GPS, Video and Music players, microSD card support, Blueooth 2.0, USB 2.0 and AA / AAA battery slot, for back-up, in case you forget to charge the Li-Ion one.

Since the mobile division of Philips was sold by the Dutch company to China Electronics Corp. a few years ago, all the Philips handsets are currently made in Asia. Moreover, most of the phones bearing the Philips name are sold only on Asian markets, so the new full touchscreen devices will most probably be commercialized there at least at the beginning. We'll see soon when (and if) the rest of the world can get the handsets too.
