No details about its release though

Philips Xenium X800, the very first full-touch handset to come under Philips' brand, was recently spotted in the wild, after the device was also seen on FCC's website, not too long ago. Although, in the world of gadgets, "in the wild" generally means just "in live pictures", the new images available with the X800 are a good reason for us to take the expression literally.

The nicest thing about X800 is that, keeping the tradition of previously released Xenium handsets, it comes with an impressive battery lifetime. More exactly, this is said to last up to 8 hours in talk-time mode and up to 850 hours (more than one month) in stand-by mode.

Furthermore, Philips X800 features a 2.9 inch TFT touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 pixel resolution and 256K colors, Media player, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 2 Megapixel camera with auto focus and video recording, document viewer and editor, plus a microSD card slot. Sadly, there's only tri-band GSM connectivity with GPRS, and the handset doesn't pack GPS or Wi-Fi.

The dimensions and weight of the X800 are currently not known. The newly-available images show it to be a bit thicker than other full-touch handsets currently in the spotlight (like the iPhone 3G, HTC Touch Diamond and Samsung Instinct), so it is probably around 16-18 millimeters thick.

The availability of Philips X800 currently has a big question mark above it, and the same applies for its retail price. Still, the handset seems to be targeted only for China - this would make the lack of 3G not such a big problem, since the most populous country in the world doesn't have, yet, a 3G network.

We'll find out more about the X800 when it actually hits the market, and until then we can hope there's also a 3G version of it in the works, as the handset looks quite nice and its powerful battery would make it a good choice for lots of users.
