The new product has no bezel nor cable nor wires of any kind

We've heard of edge-to-edge displays before, and we have even stumbled upon the occasional monitor and TV described as no-bezel but which were hardly worthy of that moniker. Now we have actually found something deserving that description.

Philips is the one that made the DesignLine TV, a product that doesn't totally reflect its initial vision but is amazing nonetheless.

At some point in the past, Philips got the idea of a huge plate of glass that leaned against the wall and acted like a huge TV.

The DesignLine TV very much fits the concept, but it can also stand up on its own, and can be hung from a wall too, if the situation calls for it.

As the photo on the left and video embedded below show, the panel has no bezel (plastic or metallic edge), although a very thin, black border does remain when programs are playing.

It really is a huge piece of glass with a TV surface taped on it. And we do mean taped. The gradient is screen printed on the glass.

Interestingly enough, there are two pieces to the Philips DesignLive TV: the large, front glass, and the rear section that is only about half as large.

The company intends to ship 46-inch and 55-inch versions with LED backlighting, high resolutions and support for 3D media (immersive 3D Max).

Furthermore, Integrated WiFi (it is unclear where exactly it is) and content sharing via SimplyShare will be included.

It is also worth noting that no cables can be seen anywhere, making us wonder whether Philips will add a battery too, assuming it has the space for it. Probably not.

Now all we are wondering about is the rather distracting ambient light reflected in the glass pane, especially on the lower half. Pricing and availability have yet to be disclosed, and we will have to wait for the actual specifications too. At least there is a nice product page already.
