If you think Philips was about to stand aside and not join the tablet race, you were definitely wrong. The company has quietly introduced in Europe a slate called Philips Amio.

Hungarian blog Tech2.hu reports that the tablet will become available this month and will cost a meager €100 / $134. So if you’re mulling over a Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab or Amazon Kindle Fire budget slate wondering what to get, maybe you should take into consideration the Philips device as well.

Sadly enough, the company doesn't offer something revolutionary here, only a mid-range device, in an attempt to make a presence on the market, regardless of product quality.

The Amio features a 7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Power comes from a 1.5GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. 8GB of storage are provided onboard with the possibility of extension via the microSD card slot.

Your usual tablet functions are also provided, micro USB port, micro HDMI port and a headset jack. The slate runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

However, there’s one feature to set this tablet apart. Philips has packed its “FullSound” technology that is said to allow MP3 file quality to be enhanced by applying a digital processing technology.
