A few days back we saw what seemed to be the beginning of a cyberbattle between Chinese and Filipino hackers. However, government officials from the Philippines warn the local hacktivist community that these attacks are not beneficial for the country.

According to GMA News, representatives of the Department of Science and Technology have stated that the government does not condone these actions and they must be stopped.

“We understand the concern of our local hacker community on this issue,” said Louis Casambre, executive director of DOST Information and Communications Technology Office.

“However, exchanges such as this one will not benefit anyone and could possibly lead to bigger problems in the future for the Philippines and China and escalate the already tense situation at Panatag Shoal.”

This comes after Filipino hackers defaced a number of Chinese websites, including ones that belong to the government. Their actions followed the defacement of the University of Philippines site and attacks on three websites that belong to the presidency.
