Philippines Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has instructed the Cybercrime Division of the country’s National Bureau of Investigation to analyze the recent attacks launched by Anonymous hackers against around 40 government websites.

The official wants the hackers to be brought to justice, GMA News reported. De Lima highlights the fact that even if the Cybercrime Prevention Law cannot be applied at the moment due to a Supreme Court restraint order, hackers can still be convicted under the e-Commerce Act.

The attacks launched by Anonymous came just before the November 5 protests, this year dubbed "the Million Mask March."

On November 5, real-world Anonymous protests are taking place in several countries. However, Filipino hackers wanted to spread their protest message in cyberspace as well.

Their operation targeted websites not only with distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks, but also with defacements.
