The conflict between Malaysians and Filipinos is far from being over

Representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines have condemned the cyberattacks launched by Malaysian and Filipino hackers against each other’s websites in response to the conflict in the Sabah region.

“We condemn all cyber attacks regardless which sides are coming from. We call on both Filipino and Malaysian citizens to be more responsible and encourage dialogue rather than Discord,” said Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez, cited by GMA News.

The feud between hacktivists started a couple of weeks after the Filipino Sultan Jamalul Kiram III invaded Lahad Datu in the Malaysian state of Sabah.

Several government websites from both sides have been disrupted as a result of distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks. Anonymous Malaysia attempted to tone down the conflict, but without much success.

Unfortunately, the conflict, at least the one from the real world, is far from being over. After Malaysia launched an air strike on Lahad Datu, killing both Filipinos and Malaysians, thousands of Suluk from southern Philippines have started heading to Sabah to aid those who are already there.
