You wouldn’t be able to tell it by his packed shooting schedule but, just recently, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman completed a stint in rehab for narcotics and heroin abuse. He had been sober for over 2 decades when it happened.

Hoffman, whose next, highly anticipated role will be in the second “Hunger Games” film, “Catching Fire,” admits in a statement to TMZ that he had relapsed into drug use, so he had to seek professional help for his problem.

It all started with prescription pills, which he took for almost a year. Then, things really turned bad and he started using heroin again.

Luckily, he realized he was in trouble so he acted quickly because he didn’t want to revisit the experiences of the past.

He’s already out of rehab, clean and working on a new movie in Europe, the celebrity publication says.

“Hoffman – who struggled with substance abuse in the past but kicked the habit for 23 years – fell off the wagon more than a year ago. He tells TMZ it started slowly with prescription pills, and recently escalated to snorting heroin,” the e-zine writes.

“Hoffman tells us the heroin use only lasted a week or so and he quickly realized he needed help, so he checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast,” adds the report.

“He says he was at the facility for 10 days and checked out last Friday. Hoffman credits what he calls ‘a great group of friends and family’ for helping him seek the treatment he needed to get better,” TMZ also notes.

Hoffman’s most high profile roles as of late include that of Scientology-like guru in “The Master,” opposite Joaquin Phoenix, and that of Plutarch Heavensbee in the upcoming “Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” which will be out on November 22.
