One of the most important people for the development of the PlayStation 2 gaming console from Sony has said that he envisions a future when players who are using just a web browser will get the same gaming experience, including in terms of graphics, as those who are using a modern generation gaming consoles like the PlayStation 3 from Sony or the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

Speaking to the Videogame Developers Conference in Rome Harrison, who is a co-founder of London Venture Partners has stated, “I think in the next five-to-ten years we will easily get this level of game inside a web browser, on your mobile platform, on your iPad, and we will be able to deliver that level of immersion to any kind of screen.”

He added, “Somebody is going to win. Somebody is going to deliver console level 3D graphics, video and audio into a web browser. That will be the tipping point for the evolution of our industry that will accelerate what we can do in a browser, and I think will create the next generation platform for games.”

Recently, Harrison also said that the current conditions on the market meant that the PlayStation 3 had no chance to move the same number of console after ten years as its predecessor had done.

The former Sony executive also believes that the future is linked to open gaming platforms, where anyone can deliver content quickly and there are no barriers like those currently erected by Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and Apple around their own devices.

Harrison's statements come as Sony and Microsoft are adamant that during the next few years they are not planning on announcing and introducing new gaming consoles, which means that there's plenty of types for those working on the PC to deliver more complex experiences using browsers and, probably, free to play models.
