As you know, Rockstar has dedicated some
exclusive downloadable GTA IV content to
Microsoft's
Xbox 360 userbase. In simpler terms, Sony's PS3 gamers will be getting "less" GTA IV content, which doesn't necessarily suck for them, as the episodic content, launching via Xbox Live, will cost some money to get. However, Sony is known for not charging a
lot with their PlayStation Network and so, it sucks. However... Sony apparently has something cooking in Rocksar's kitchen.
In an interview with EGM's Dan Hsu, Sony's head of game development Phil Harrison was asked whether they had any plans to answer the exclusive downloadable content headed to Microsoft's Xbox 360 userbase, as I found via 1UP.com. The man's answer...:
"As the head of the [internal Sony] studios it's hard for me to comment on the third party relations, so I don't know the details of that -- we deliberately keep those separate -- but we have a great relationship with Rockstar and we're actually working closely with them on a number of initiatives, so I do know some things that are going on but I'm not able to share those with you now."
So much for "what are you going to do to combat the Xbox 360's exclusive DLC?" The good thing is, Phil Harrison not only tried to provide a satisfying answer (sort of...), but also hinted at a fruitful collaboration between the two companies.
Isn't it obvious? No, not another game, they'd have announced it by now and they'd have confirmed it for the Xbox 360 in the first place. Unless that is, Sony has some serious money on Rockstar this time around, just like
Microsoft and their 50 mill for the exclusive GTA IV content. Oh well, as it always goes, until we get confirmation on what those "things" really are, we can speculate as far as the sky goes. But something is indeed cooking in Rockstar's kitchen and it's for Sony's platform(s).
