Users are asking the software maker to keep the service alive

Microsoft publicly announced a few weeks ago that it was killing the TechNet subscription service, giving developers no option when it comes to testing early versions of its software.

Users, on the other hand, have created an online petition that calls for the Redmond-based tech giant to abandon its plans of killing TechNet or, at least, to create an affordable alternative.

“IT Professionals and ISVs need affordable access to Microsoft products normally accessed through TechNet. Please continue TechNet or create an affordable alternative to MSDN subscriptions minus Visual Studio and associated developer tools. Currently, the only comparable MSDN subscription costs $6120,” the petition reads.

At this point, the online petition has reached 3,600 signatures, but even so, it’s hard to believe that Microsoft would change its mind and keep the service alive.
