Project Laundry Lists asks that the First Family set up a visible laundry line

It's been only a few days since the news broke that the Obamas were installing solar panels on top of the White House.

Should the people at Project Laundry List have their way, it wouldn't be long until the First Family further improve on their ecological footprint by taking up the habit to air-dry their clothing.

What's more, they would air-dry them someplace where people can see them, Inhabitat tells us.

According to the greenheads, this might serve as an encouragement for other people living in the US to quit using tumble dryers and turn to more eco-friendly ways to dry their clothes.

“According to EIA, six percent of residential electricity consumption is due to the tumble dryer, but this does not account for the 18% of people who dry with gas nor the huge number of people who go to laundromats or shared laundry areas (commercial) nor the millions of pounds of laundry done by hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and prisons (more commercial).”

“This symbolic act by the Obamas – installing a clothesline – could provide an example to the world, especially dryer-using Americans, of a way that families can save energy and money,” Project Laundry List explains.

Those wishing to sing Project Laundry List's petition asking that the First Family start air-drying their laundry can do so here.
