Quite a vivid remark against the site

The end of 2008 throughout the beginning of 2009 has been a period of chart making and awarding games for the innovations they brought to the industry. We've seen some charts made by Metacritic, but other sites made their own tops, in which they included some games, and, obviously, left other ones out.

It seems that Eurogamer, with its top 50 games of this past year, has gained the attention of Electronic Arts' Sports label president, Peter Moore, who wasn't very pleased that his FIFA 09 soccer simulator game didn't make the chart. He then went on to express his discontent on his blog, where he tried to understand what reasoning the people who made the chart followed when they chose not to pick the very popular soccer game.

“I'm sure like many of you, I spent some time following the year end "best of" lists for video games. It seems like every web site and magazine publishes such a list, and as always, they create some frenzied forum threads as gamers agree, and more likely disagree, with the inclusion of many of the games. One that I always make a point of following is the Eurogamer Top 50. Now I get that the sports genre is the Rodney Dangerfield of games when the awards are handed out. But c'mon, one of the best sports games of recent times not even in the Top 50? This title will sell in excess of 10 million units when all is done and dusted, but doesn't even rank a mention?”

This was only the part comprising the nice statements the EA Sports president made, as his words after seeing that FIFA didn't make the top weren't the nicest ones. He then went on to say that he was proud that other games in the Electronic Arts lineup made the chart, like Boom Blox, Spore, Burnout or Mirror's Edge but his dissatisfaction with FIFA 09 was pretty severe.

While the soccer simulator did sell quite a lot, it seems that some reviewers have gotten weary of seeing almost the same game being released every year with only a few tweaks made. What about you? Do you think that FIFA 09 was one of the best games of 2008 or is it that the Eurogamer staff made the right decision? Let us know by using the comment box below.
