Peter Molyneux's Next Game Will “Revolutionize AI”

- He didn't say much but he's really excited!

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

You've got to love Peter Molyneux! He's one of the funniest persons in the gaming industry and, by far, one of the most enthusiastic. While I totally agree that this guy is a genius
and many of his games (Populous or Black & White, just to name a couple) were indeed revolutionary, probably we all remember his Fable over-enthusiastic and totally unreal descriptions. Now it's possible that he did it again.

While at the GDC, where he was supposed to talk about the development of Fable 2, he couldn't resist the temptation to detour a little in an interview with next-gen.biz. So, even though he was able not to completely spoil the beans, he said that his team is working on a project that will completely "revolutionize AI". Very few details were given, but we have some ideas already. Here is what he said:

"In the six years since Black & White [was released] they have been working improving the great things that underpinned that game, and now they are getting pretty close to something that is very significant. It’s a very big thing. A new franchise and as close to something revolutionary as I have ever seen. And we’re close to announcing it."

Despite the protestations of his publicity handlers, he continued: "If you think back to the one thing about Black & White that was most fascinating, you’d have to say it was that creature that learned behavior and seemed, for a certain glimpse, to be alive. Imagine if you could take that and multiply it by a billion…" Unfortunately, that was the moment when Molyneux's publicist interfered and made the guy stop. And he was so close...

Anyway, as he said, the developers are close to announce the game. And, most likely, it is a game that will be ready in 3 or 4 years but, hey! Maybe Peter got it right this time and we will have that revolutionary game. However, from what he said, don't you have the feeling that he's talking about a Spore-like game?
