Microsoft also says it isn't a priority

The Halo franchise is one of the biggest in the gaming industry, boasting a huge number of fans all around the world. That is why Microsoft and reputed director and producer Peter Jackson were planning a movie and a new game as early as 2006.

Sadly, the years passed and nothing was heard about the projects, which made Halo fans quite eager to see just what the Lord of the Rings director would make of their beloved franchise. But, as we saw a few days ago during the San Diego Comic-Con, the project was left without a director, as Neill Blomkamp revealed that he wouldn't be at the helm of the Halo movie.

Now, Peter Jackson talks about the projects and reveals that financial complications made the movie and the game come to a standstill. He says that the game “sort of collapsed when the movie didn't end up happening.”

This fact is now backed up by a statement released by Microsoft, which says that Peter Jackson's Halo game isn't a top priority right now and that other titles, like Halo 3: ODST, are occupying all of the resources from the company.

“Microsoft Game Studios is deeply committed to supporting and strategically growing the Halo franchise, and our relationship with Peter and his team is something that we greatly value. Given the bandwidth of both of our companies we've decided to put this joint effort on hold and prioritize resources against other projects like 'Halo 3: ODST', 'Halo: Reach' and 'Halo Legends'.”

All in all, perhaps this move was for the best and the Halo franchise will still be something tied only to Microsoft. But considering the global following of the series, perhaps a movie adaptation will appear when the financial times will be better.
