Should Rafa Benitez be happy for his team's first win in the Champions League this season? As far as the Spaniard is concerned, he believes Liverpool should be glad with the result. The Reds won their home match against Turkish side Galatasaray 3-2 and are now top of Group C.

The match, however, could have turned against Liverpool in the end. The home side started the match great and, by halftime, the scoreboard was already showing a comfortable 2-0 advantage. Peter Crouch set off the party on Anfield Road in the 9th minute of the game.

Liverpool's top scorer finished off Mondragon with a right-foot shot, after Fabio Aurelio
superbly crossed him from left field. And the scoring chances kept pouring towards Galatasaray's post. Luis Garcia immediately made it 2 for the home side, with a great header from Pennant's cross.

The scoreboard remained the same by halftime, despite good efforts by Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio and Dirk Kuyt.

The second half gave us, arguably, the best goal of the season in the Champions League. Finnan sent a great cross in the center penalty area, and Crouch pulled out an incredible bicycle shot to stun Mondragon for the third time. All things seemed right for the Reds, but the match was not over.

And Umit Karan sure took care of giving the home fans a scare. He pulled Galata back into the game with 2 great headers in only 6 minutes. Galata's opener came on counter attack, when Karan headed home a perfect cross by Hasan Sas. Six minutes later, the same Umit Karan made it 3-2 on the scoreboard with a powerful header from the penalty area.

The Turkish side had plenty of chances to even the score, but Hakan Sukur, Ayhan Akman and Sasa Ilic failed to seal a remarkable comeback.

"It was a very difficult game. After we conceded those goals we were under pressure all the time and we couldn't score the 'winning' fourth goal. The first half was fantastic - we had the crosses for the goals. It was an open game - as a manager you don't like open games, especially when you're winning 3-0", admitted Benitez after the match.

The other match of the group saw Koeman's PSV Eindhoven take all the 3 points out of their Bordeaux away. The winning goal came in the 65th minute of the match, when Vayrynen ended his offensive effort with a cool finish past Rame. Kone's role in the play was also decisive.

Group C Standings:

1. Liverpool 4p 3-2
2. PSV 4p 1-0
3. Galatasaray 1p 2-3
4. Bordeaux 1p 0-1
