Yesterday, a rep for Katie Price confirmed that she had been married to boyfriend of 7 months Alex Reid in a Las Vegas ceremony only hours earlier. In a subsequent interview with Sky News, ex husband Peter Andre had to answer the very difficult question of what he’d do if Alex Reid ever came up to him to say he wanted to adopt the children he had with Price – but he would not even hear about such a thing, lost his temper and eventually ended the interview weeping, as the Mirror can confirm.
Andre was on the air to talk about his sold-out tour, as well as about his plans to release an album for Valentine’s Day but, as expected, the discussion soon touched upon topics related to his personal life. Since Andre had once said he wanted to adopt Harvey, Price’s son from a previous relationship, the interviewer wanted to know what he’d do if Reid would say the same. This is when the singer completely lost his cool, saying no one would ever take his kids from him because he would not allow it.
“The 36-year-old singer was being interviewed by Kay Burley on Sky News when she played a clip of Dwight Yorke, 38, father of Katie’s son Harvey, seven. In it, the footballer accused Andre of being ‘disrespectful’ for wanting to adopt Harvey. Andre, who had not been told the clip would be played, said: ‘That makes me angry. I love Harvey. How is loving someone disrespectful? Maybe I just come from a different background.’ Burley said the only reason the clip was played was because Andre might be in a similar position in the future, now that Katie, 31, had married Celebrity Big Brother winner Alex Reid, 34. But Andre hit back: ‘I would fight to the death for my kids’,” the Mirror writes.
He then stopped talking, on the verge of tears. The interviewer tried to bring the discussion back on track, asking him about the tour but it was clear that he could no longer go on with it. Visibly upset, Andre explained he could not continue with the interview and that he’d like to end it, much to Burley’s embarrassment, who couldn’t stop apologizing. Sky News cut to commercials shortly afterwards.
When speaking with the media yesterday of Price’s shock wedding, Peter Andre said he had not been surprised by it. “I was doing a signing in Basildon and someone told me. But it’s not my business. To be honest, I wasn’t surprised at all. Just like any other parent, what I care about is whether they are a good influence on my children. It’s like Santa Claus. You kind of let them believe everything’s OK until the point they have to know. Maybe that time has come,” he said, as cited by the same publication.
