Pete Wentz ‘Crying,’ Devastated by Divorce News

Pete Wentz doesn’t want to divorce Ashlee Simpson even if she already went ahead and filed the papers. A new report in Radar Online says that he was completely taken by surprise by the divorce request because he hadn’t realized things were that bad.

Word that the two were getting a divorce emerged online yesterday. Speculation said something about Ashlee wanting out of the marriage because of Pete’s “erratic” behavior, but sources are saying that’s not the case.

Radar seems to confirm that, saying it has it on good authority that the two simply grew apart. Pete was on tour a lot and, while at home with son Bronx, Ashlee simply realized that the marriage had run its course.

Of course, that’s not to say that Pete wasn’t surprised when he heard she wanted a divorce. On the contrary actually, he was in complete shock and disbelief.

“Pete has been crying a lot to her about this. He is crushed, and does not want it to be over. Ashlee is done, she loves him, but she’s ready to move on,” a source close to the couple says for Radar.

“When he traveled for work, she had a lot of time to think, and in the end she just felt happier without him,” the same spy explains.

Still, one gets the vague impression that Pete wasn’t even given a fighting chance and that Ashlee had made up her mind before even sitting down with him for a talk.

Radar says Wentz was “blindsided” by the news: he even went through all the trouble of preparing a surprise for Ashlee on Valentine’s Day, which is definitely something that a man who’s on the brink of divorce doesn’t do.

“They married really young and have grown apart, she just wants to focus on her child and her career,” the spy says.

As we also informed you yesterday, Ashlee is asking for primary physical custody of Bronx, and full spousal and child support. There is no prenup, word has it.
