Wolfenstein: The New Order is set in an alternate universe where the Nazi German forces have managed to win World War II and are currently dominating the world and the team t Bethesda in charge of the game says that it has created an original soundtrack that reflects the situation.

The company has taken classic hits from the 1960s and has put a unique militaristic and tyrannical spin on them in order to reflect how the culture of the world would look if order and fear were more important than freedom.

Pete Hines, the vice president for marketing at Bethesda, tells Polygon that, "We wanted to identify with different sounds that were kind of iconic, 1960s sounds and then do our own twist on them to make a sound authentic enough that it felt realistic, but then, there's also something inherently funny about a German Beach Boys cover band.”

All the songs that were created for the new Wolfenstein are offered on the official fake site of a company called Neumond Recordings, where anyone can listen to them right now.

Hines adds, “The Nazis aren't going to be folks who are fine with you singing in English. The developers felt it was important that, for immersion purposes, these things be in their native language, to reinforce the idea that you're a stranger out of time.”

Bethesda used two licensed songs for the trailers launched for The New order but it was easier to create new tracks to put in the actual game than asks for tunes from established artists because of the potential negative association with Nazi imagery.

The songs of Wolfenstein reflect classic American pop songs but the developers at MachineGames decided that neither Motown nor protest songs would be approved by the Nazi Ministry of Culture for release.

The game is designed to put gamers once more in the combat boosts of B.J. Blaskowitz as he emerges from a mental institution and needs to use his proficiency with high powered weaponry in order to take out Nazi enemies and set the world on the path to freedom.

MachineGames says that it will also introduce a complex narrative in its new title and moments when the confrontation with the enemy is more psychological than physical.

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be launched on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and current gen consoles on May 20 all over the world.
