Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty was held under police custody until Sunday afternoon, after a drug raid on Saturday night, just before the band's concert. Doherty and Babyshambles were due to perform at the UEA LCR Saturday, but they were forced to cancel the gig, because Pete was detained during a series of raids in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. According to West Mercia police, the troubled rocker was arrested under the suspicion of possession of a class A drug and released Sunday on bail, until December. A police spokesman said: "In the early hours of this morning, officers stopped a minibus in Shrewsbury town center and detained a number of people for the purposes of a drugs search. Officers also attended one building in Shrewsbury and detained a number of other individuals". Emerging from the station yesterday, Doherty said: "The law is a pain in the arse. The only drugs that I had on me were prescription ones. I take them because they help keep me off heroin. That is all they found. The police took me in and questioned me all afternoon. It's all a load of rubbish." Tony Linkin, Doherty's spokesman, stated: "Pete has been held overnight by police after being taken away during a drugs raid at the Shrewsbury gig. The police waited until the band had finished the concert." Littl'ans, a member of the support group, wrote on the Babyshambles website, describing the police raid: "Our tour bus was raided whilst on the move in an SAS-style raid by six police officers in't middle of night after leaving the Jig in Shrewsbury. They banged on the door whilst the van was moving and then forced it to a stop using other police cars. They stormed in and with a lot of shouting and threats put the cuffs on. We were then made to keep our hands up and taken to the police station and strip searched. Some of the 'Shambles were there when we got there but we were the only ones in cuffs."
