Pets are something that many people own, but sometimes it's hard to tell if it's time to take the dog, cat or whatever else to a vet.

Lite-On IT decided to give people a way to watch out for their animal friends, although doctors might find better use for it: the Skyla pet biochemical analyzer.

Essentially, it can analyze 14 items of a pet's health using 0.2cc of blood.

Some veterinary clinics already have them, but normal people should be able to get them as well, if they're really determined to do the best they can for their pets.

Human-use hematology analysis instruments and digital image-based diagnosis systems are the next step for Lite-On IT.

The company got the technology from Biomedical Engineering Research Laboratories, under the government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute in August 2011.
