An individual's personality influences their taste in food, Nadia Byrnes at the Pennsylvania State University says.

The doctoral candidate claims that outgoing and adventurous people more often than not enjoy eating spicy foods.

On the other hand, people who prefer to play it safe typically choose not to sink their teeth into anything that might make their taste buds go bananas, Daily Mail reports.

Nadia Byrnes explains that, under normal circumstances, people should try and keep away from foods that are irritating. Otherwise put, those who avoid spicy foods really are on to something.

However, those who seek adventure and derive pleasure from intense sensations will jump at the chance to gulp down chili peppers just to prove that they have what it takes to deal with risky situations.

“Theoretically, we know that burn intensity and liking are linear related. The more irritating a compound or food gets, the less people should like it. But that's not always the case,” the doctoral candidate explains.
