In the wake of a security breach incident on its systems back in July, Jessie Trice Community Health Center announced on Monday that it had been the victim of a cyber-attack that aimed at stealing personally identifiable information of its patients.

It appears that the cybercriminals were successful because the organization informed that data on 7,888 individuals was exposed in the event.

The health center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services for the uninsured in Miami-Dade.

The type of information that was accessed by the crooks includes names, birth dates, and social security numbers, basically all the details necessary for cybercriminals to pull identity theft jobs.

According to Miami Herald, the FBI and the IRS are involved in the investigation, and a data breach response vendor has been contracted to deal with the affected patients.

It appears that the attack was carried out to steal personal information specifically, as no medical records were exposed. No information has been provided about the method used by the intruder(s) to gain access to the sensitive information.

The representatives of the health center informed that the security of the computer systems was upgraded to protect future risks of identity theft.

At the moment of writing, the pages of Jessie Trice Community Health Center were not accessible, which could indicate a maintenance job, although no news about this is present on the Facebook profile of the organization.
