Most people cannot wait to be discharged from hospital and return home. However, there are also those who, for some reason, find sleeping in a hospital bed way more refreshing than napping on their own mattress.

55-year-old Mr. Chen from China is one of these people. In fact, it was just a couple of days ago that police officers in China had to use force to will him out of the Beijing Jingmei Group Hospital simply because the man refused to leave on his own.

How the 55-year-old man ended up in hospital

It is understood that Mr. Chen was admitted to hospital back in August 2011, after he was involved in a road traffic accident and suffered considerable injuries.

At that time, doctors patched his wounds and, once the man started feeling better, sent him home. A few weeks later, however, Mr. Chen returned to hospital and claimed that his left leg was hurting.

He was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis, treated and, after a while, once again discharged. The thing is that, this time, the man refused to leave the hospital on the grounds that he was in too much pain.

Mr. Chen insisted that it was the doctors' responsibility to help him feel better and, rather than being escorted out, was allowed to stick around for a while longer.

It's not often that doctors need the police to discharge a patient

Daily Mail tells us that, in July 2012, Mr. Chen ran out of money and, therefore, could no longer pay his medical bills. When this happened, he was ordered to leave the Beijing Jingmei Group Hospital.

True to himself, he kept insisting that he was in pain and refused to budge. Despite being ignored by doctors and nurses, he remained glued to his hospital bed until this week, when the police intervened.

The officers who came to remove him from hospital brought with them a court order saying that 55-year-old Mr. Chen was to leave immediately. In response to this order, the man chained himself to his bed.

To discharge him, police officers had to cut his chains and then carry him out of the hospital. By the looks of it, the man was then taken to his home in Beijing's Mentougou district.

Admittedly, blood tests indicate that Mr. Chen is in perfect health and, therefore, has no business being in hospital. Then again, given his behavior, it might not be such a bad idea if someone were to assess his mental state.
