Geek chic is back again in fashion and, with each month, seems to be taken one step further than ever before. Fashion is not the only place where everything geek is causing havoc these days, as a recent poll conducted in the UK on 2,500 women and cited by the
Daily Mail shows. While most of them would never admit to it to a stranger, the perfect man seems to be a geek with stubble, it has emerged.
The first thing that gets to women when they meet a new man seems to be facial stubble, the recent poll has revealed. Almost half of the women queried prefer stubble over a clean shave or a beard, which would explain why stars like David Beckham and Gerard Butler are so successful with the ladies (or at least partially explain that), the Mail says. Far from being a sign of poor hygiene or laziness, stubble seems to be now held in high regard as a sign of style and class.
Up next in ladies’ preferences came a geeky personality, which stands as proof that, no matter how derided they may have been once, geeks are the hottest “assets” on the market right now. Third spot went to a hairy chest, with women saying they secretly hated men who shaved or waxed, though they would never admit that to a stranger. Fourth in women’s preferences turned out to be a man’s ability to shed a tear or just show some emotion when watching a soapy movie. Fondness of reading also fell in this last category, followed by gray hair, wearing glasses and being a sports fan.
“Publically, girls will claim they want a muscly guy, who is hair free and manly enough not to show his emotional side. But these results prove that they secretly want something different. It seems women really do like a guy who is able to show a softer side, or who is carrying a little bit of extra weight. I’m sure it’s a relief to men all over the country to find out that women aren’t actually looking for that perfect guy,” a spokesperson for OnePoll, the company that conducted the survey, says for the Mail.
Another surprise the survey presented was the fact that women actually seemed to prefer a more chubby man over one who looked like he spent most of his spare time at the gym. Similarly, guys who don’t fret too much about how they look rank higher than those who take many minutes, if not hours, to get ready for a date. The same goes for dieting, with women looking for men who are not counting calories when they step out for dinner.
