Nowadays, major brands aren't only concerned about increasing their profit margins. For most of them, one of the main objectives is to remain competitive on the market while focusing on its impact upon the environment.

Such an eco-conscious conduct is awarded by the Carbon War Room, in partnership with the Gigaton Throwdown.

The two partners have elaborated a list of companies, whose entire activity during this last year has redefined their position as climate leaders.

Their progress has to be cherished, since campaigns which support the decrease of CO2 emission worldwide aren't always successful.

The organizations will name the nominees, that will receive their awards during the COP 17 climate summit which will take place in Durban, South Africa.

The competition is quite tight, since eighteen major players on the market fight to redefine themselves as top eco-friendly companies. One of the most known finalists of this challenge are Fiat (Italy), Philips (Netherlands), Danone (France), PepsiCo, Inc. (US), Tesco (UK) and Siemens (Germany).

The selection was anything but random, since all the companies were taken into consideration based upon their scores obtained in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

The awards will go to the companies which succeeded in developing a sustainable and profitable business growth. Second, this initiative tends to correlate the significant profit margins obtained by these enterprises with an active role in fighting the CO2 footprint.

Last, but not least, the Carbon War Room officials think that such a contribution deserves to be highlighted, allowing the winning companies to consolidate their position as green leaders, among their competition.

“This award recognizes the companies doing the most to achieve climate stability. These companies are inspiration to realize a business-led transition from a fossil-fuel based economy to one based on clean energy,” declared Sunil Paul, the entrepreneur who launched the Gigaton Throwdown on the market.

Nike, Reckitt Benckiser, Suzlon, 3M, Vodafone and GDF Suez were the lucky winners of last years' Gigaton Awards, hosted in Cancún, Mexico.
