John Pike worked for University of California Davis, before being fired after using pepper spray on students in 2011.

Lieutenant Pike was relieved of his duties, but he was suspended with pay for about a year, as authorities carried on an investigation. He was only kicked off the force in July 2012.

According to NY Daily News, the campus police officer filed a worker's compensation claim in June.

He claims that he has incurred unspecified psychiatric and nervous system trauma, as a result of using the spray on the students.

According to UC Davis spokesman Andy Fell, the state Division of Workers Compensation Appeals Board ruled to give him $38,055 (about €27,500), on Wednesday.

The university was also sued by 21 students, and gave out a $1 million (€725 K) settlement this June.
