The People’s Choice Awards 2015 were held last night in Los Angeles, at the Nokia Theatre, and aired live on CBS. Producers looked to acknowledge accomplishments in film, television and music with the gala, while also offering plenty of time and opportunities for the celebrities involved to plug their current or upcoming projects.

Hosted by Anna Faris and Allison Janney, the awards show actually had a pretty impressive celebrity turnout, including Hollywood A-listers like Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Ben Affleck, and big names from television like Ellen DeGeneres and Kaley Cuoco.

The big winners

What makes People’s Choice Awards stand out from the many award shows happening this time of the year is the fact that it’s, as host Faris pointed out, a “popularity contest.” Since the categories, the nominees and the winners are all established by public vote, the gala is the best indicator of one particular celebrity or project’s popularity and appeal with the public.

With this in mind, it no longer strikes anyone as weird that Chloe Grace Moretz beat Meryl Streep for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress with the rather critically panned “If I Stay,” or that Adam Sandler actually won an award for “Blended,” when he’s at a point in his career when he’s had so many consecutive box office flops that he’s the closest thing to box office poison.

This edition of People’s Choice confirmed that 2014 was the year of Iggy Azalea, who will probably continue to rule the charts into the next year despite the controversy and all that talk of cultural appropriation on her part, she being a white woman from a middle-class Australian family rapping as if she were black.

Iggy took home the award for Best Hip Hop. Sucks to be Jay Z or Nicki Minaj. Iggy also performed her latest hit, “Beg for It,” which made sense, since she was already there, she might as well do some promo work.

Other performers included Lady Antebellum, which also took home the award for Favorite Country Group, and Fall Out Boy.

Many of the awards (because there were so many of them, we assume) were offered off screen, and of those that were handed on stage, none were a surprise.

Below is the complete list of winners: check it out to see if your favorite got to go home with one of those crystal awards or not.
