Fans and viewers get their say, name their favorite in music, film and TV

Tonight’s ceremony of People’s Choice Awards will officially kick off the awards season but, unlike all the other, more pretentious galas that will follow, this one is perhaps more important because the winners are determined by fans’ votes.

The 39th edition of People’s Choice Awards will air live tonight on CBS, with the telecast produced by the critically acclaimed Mark Burnett and hosted by the gorgeous Kaley Cuoco.

“I am so thrilled and fortunate to be once again producing this year's People's Choice Awards. Passionate and devoted fans are what make us successful and it is an honor to give them a chance to celebrate their favorites in entertainment,” Burnett says in a statement to Broadway World.

And that they will: voting is now closed but the good people at home have already had their chance to cast in their vote in support of their favorite, be it in music, film or television.

Given that the awards honor performances in all 3 media and especially because it’s the fans who get to choose who deserves said honor, People’s Choice Awards is perhaps the most empowering gala of its kind, President of People’s Choice Fred Nelson believes.

“One of the greatest aspects of the People's Choice Awards is that fans have a say throughout the entire process. From categories to nominees to winners, the people are in charge. We're excited to once again empower the fans to create the show they want to see on January 9,” Nelson says.
