Ever since the “Twilight” frenzy began when the first film came out, British actor Robert Pattinson had to sport roughly the same hairdo at all times. Not so anymore: in fact, he unveiled a new 'do at last night's People's Choice Awards 2012.

Because, for millions of fans from all around the world, he was associated with the character Edward Cullen, Pattinson was perhaps contractually bound not to do anything drastic to his hair while he still had to shoot for the film.

However, shooting for the franchise ended a while back and, with just one film still to come out (later this year), Robert was finally free to do what he wanted to his hair.

At the People's Choice Awards gala, held as usual in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater, the actor rocked a closely cut 'do that took something from his heartthrob persona but made him look manlier.

He's no longer the suave Edward, he's handsome young fellow Robert, countless voices online are saying.

Robert was on hand to accept the award for Best Drama Movie for “Water for Elephants,” as you can see in the video below, embedded at the end of the article.

It was also an wonderful opportunity for his (mostly female) fans to admire his new, cleaner and more mature hairdo.

“Wow. Thank you very much. I don't know why they asked me to accept it because it's really a lot of other people as well,” a visibly nervous Pattinson said in his acceptance speech, after being handed the award by Zacchary Levi and former “Twilight” co-star Ashley Greene.

“When I was doing this movie, I was having so much fun doing it that I was saying to everyone I didn't even care if anyone saw it,” he said laughing.

“But now that people have seen it and they're giving awards for it, I'm even more thankful for the whole experience, so thank you guys very much,” Pattinson added.
