Too much coffee is detrimental to one's health, researchers find

Researchers in the US say that people who drink too much coffee on a daily basis are more likely to die young than those who settle for enjoying a cup or two.

In a paper published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, the specialists argue that people under the age of 55 who drink at least 4 cups of coffee daily have a 50% higher risk of dying while still young.

The researchers theorize that this is because coffee contains several chemical compounds, some of which are beneficial and some of which are quite harmful.

It is likely that people who consume too much of it experience a buildup of harmful compounds in their bodies. These chemicals reportedly affect the metabolism, and reduce life expectancy.

Since the study did not account for variables such as smoking and poor fitness, several researchers have argued that its findings may not be reliable.

Still, no harm can come out of trying to cut back on the amount of coffee one gulps down in just 24 hours' time.
