Good news for dieters. Specialists now say that, all things considered, people who wish to shed a considerable amount of weight don't have to entirely give up chocolate and other treats that they enjoy eating.

On the contrary, it appears that, on the long run, dieters get better results if they indulge in one or two bites of chocolate or other similar culinary delight every once in a while.

Specialists say that, according to recent investigations, this is because people who embrace diets centering around the elimination of certain treats said to make them gain weight are likely to compensate by consuming more of other foods.

What's more, such extreme weight-loss plans have high chances to fail after only a short while, simply because most individuals find it very hard to change their dietary habits overnight and more often than not fall off the wagon sooner than anyone would expect.

“Extensive research has proven that diets centered around food elimination are much more likely to fail,” nutrition scientist Jane Aylott said. “The key is to take a more relaxed approach and to have a little of what you like,” the specialist went on to argue.

These conclusions were reached after Janet Aylott and her colleagues carried out a survey and tried to determine how successful people who had decided to go on a diet were in their endeavor, Daily Mail tells us.

As part of this investigation, the researchers asked some 2,100 individuals, both men and women, to fill in a questionnaire, the same source details.

It was thus discovered that, of those who had managed to lose a noteworthy amount of weight, 91% had continued to eat roughly the same amount of chocolate that they consumed before going on a diet. Besides, 86% of the people who reported significant weight loss had not entirely given up on their favorite treats.

By comparison, 65% of the dieters who had completely given up chocolate, biscuits, snacks and other similar treats soon found themselves putting on weight instead of getting slimmer.
