Study shows anti-wrinkle treatments are no longer a hushed topic

The days when one would head to the doctor’s and get Botox injections or anti-wrinkle fillers, and then return home and pretend like nothing ever happened are long gone. Also gone are the days when saying a youthful appearance was all down to good genetics, as a new study indicates more and more people who get this type of treatments are more than happy to spread the information.

With more celebrities openly speaking about the pains and the lengths they go to in order to look younger for as long as possible, it’s no wonder that the average Jane and Joe also do the same. According to a recent survey by the Aesthetic Surgery Education & Research Foundation on over 600 patients, people getting Botox or fillers are actually quite open about it afterwards, even if the reactions they meet with are anything but encouraging in some cases, WebMD informs.

“The survey, which comes from the Aesthetic Surgery Education & Research Foundation, included 687 US patients who got Botox Cosmetic and/or hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane, Evolence, Prevelle Silk, Hylaform, and Captique. In the survey, participants were asked if they had told anyone about their use of Botox Cosmetic or hyaluronic acid fillers. Almost all participants – 87% - said they had. Most said they’d confided in close friends or family. They were less likely to say they’d told co-workers or casual friends, but 43% said they told ‘anyone who asked’.” the publication says of the recent findings.

Moreover, 70% of the respondents admitted that the people they confided in had been extremely supportive of their decision, and even wanted to know more about it. Some of the confidants were not as understanding, though, as 12% of respondents said they were met with criticism, while 32 % with surprised reactions. Nevertheless, what the study brings new to the table is the fact that it clearly indicates, beyond any trace of doubt, that men and women who undergo beautifying, anti-ageing treatments are no longer seeing the procedure as a taboo they should not discuss with other people.

Speaking of no longer being a hushed topic, previous research has also shown us that Botox can effectively contribute to the feeling of happiness, as it paralyzes the muscles of the face. “When you make an expression of happiness, it makes us feel happy. If we frown, it makes us feel sadder.” lead researcher Michael Lewis was saying not long ago about one of the many benefits of the injectable poison.
