Pentax is expected to make an announcement in a few days, revealing the successor of its X-5 camera.

And in anticipation of the event, the device’s main specs have been leaked into the wild. The Pentax XG-1 is a compact camera that should arrive with a 1/2.3-inch back-illuminated CMOS sensor and 52X optical zoom.

Now Pentax Rumors, tapping into the information provided by a Japanese source has revealed more information about the expected new device. We’re also being provided with the first pic showing the XG-1.

It turns out that the compact camera will come with an LCD 3-inch display and will be able to do continuous shooting at 9 frames / per second. Ultra-high-speed continuous shooting will reach 60 frames / per second (VGA), while high-speed continuous shooting is done at 30 frames / per second (4MP).

The optical zoom lens is said to be 52 times that of the F2.8-5.6 24-1248mm equivalent.

Users will be able to shoot video in full HD (1920 x 1080) and there’s also an internal shooting function onboard. The XG-1 will boast an ISO 100-3200, while shutter speed is set at 4 to 1/2000 sec. Pentax will also throw in an automatic tracking AF and camera shake correction SR system.

As we already mentioned, the camera is supposed to be a compact one, weighing just 567 g / 1.2 lbs and its measurements are 89 x 119 x 97.5mm / 3.5 x 4.8 x 3.8 inches.
