Pentax is expected to introduce the new Q2 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, and for those who are curious to see what the camera will look like, today brings a window into that.

Courtesy of DigiCame, we are now able to show you the first images depicting the upcoming device plus the soon-to-be-announced 28-45mm f/4.5 lens for the Pentax 645-series medium format cameras.

Like most camera photo gear makers out there, Ricoh is preparing some neat surprises that are to be unveiled during Photokina 2014, and one of them is the Q2 mirrorless camera.

Even if we are in the possession of the images, we can’t really tell you a whole lot about the upcoming Pentax Q2. For the time being, there’s actually no word whether the Q2 will replace a current model or will be an entirely new device addition to the Q family.

Judging by the images leaked into the wild, the device looks to be borrowing a lot of design cues from the Q7 camera, with the mention that the edges look straighter.

The sources familiar with the matter explain that the Q2 name is not set in stone and we might see the camera be unveiled as the Q-S1. They also claim that the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera will arrive with a 1/1.7-inch type image sensor in pole-position and this aspect too is reminiscent of the Q7.

Taking cues from the images showing the camera with two different paint jobs, it might be safe to assume that Ricoh will offer the device in black, white, gold, or gunmetal.

The second Pentax product spotted in the leak is the 28-45mm f/4.5 lens, which is a wide-angle zoom optic boasting constant maximum aperture throughout its zoom range.

The optics will be compatible with the Pentax 645D and 645Z cameras that have medium format image sensors. In translation, this means that the lenses will provide a 35mm focal length equivalent of approximately 22-35mm.

The new lens isn't exactly an absolute novelty, as it has already been displayed at the CP+ Camera & Photo Images Show 2014. For some reason, Ricoh has delayed the official launch of the product, but judging by the latest signals we’re getting, it shouldn't be long before we see the lens arrive into the wild.

So, if you’re excited about the new Pentax mirrorless camera and lens, you should definitely keep an eye on what will happen at Photokina 2014.

Update: It appears the latest information shows us the camera will be called the Pentax Q-S1. A few more pics depicting it have been added in the gallery
