We've already talked about the two rugged compact digital cameras Pentax recently announced, but these are by no means the only imaging solutions the company had in store for today, as they've also come up with a special, limited edition K-5 DSLR, who's main selling point is the fact that it's dominated by...silver.

According to Pentax, beside the difference in color (visible on the camera's mode dial, control buttons and levers), the silver K-5 will also sport a slightly modified design (compared to the standard model, that is), as it will pack an exclusively designed grip that is thicker than the standard K-5 model, enabling an enhanced level of stability during use.

Furthermore, the digital camera also relies on a shock-resistant, scratchproof reinforced glass for protecting the LCD monitor on the camera's back panel and the status panel on the top panel from bumps, scratches, shocks and so on.

Apart from these external features, the silver K-5 offers exactly the same specs as the standard version, featuring a high resolution 16.3 megapixel CMOS sensor, high sensitivity 80-12800 ISO range, expandable to 51200, and the possibility to record 1080p HD video at 25 FPS with sound via built-in microphone or external 3.5mm stereo microphone jack.

Beside the camera itself, Pentax also came up with a couple of special-edition silver lenses, namely the smc PENTAX-DA 21mm F3.2 AL Limited Silver, smc PENTAX-DA 40mm F2.8 Limited Silver and smc PENTAX-DA 70mm F2.4 Limited Silver, all of which feature a high-grade aluminum construction and very good optical capabilities.

The PENTAX K-5 Limited Edition Silver will be available in April 2011 and will retail for around $1699.95 (body kit), but, unfortunately, the company has not yet provided any pricing and/or availability details for the special-edition silver lenses meant to accompany this “silver surfer” of Pentax DSLRs.
