14 DAY TRIAL // They’ve been rumored to be dating for about three years but, other than putting in a couple of appearances together as an item, they rarely talked about their relationship. True to their past behavior, actors Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have just gotten married in secret, a spokesperson confirms for Us Magazine.
Last year, TV host David Letterman tried to grill Penelope about her romance with Bardem and, while she would not lie and deny that they were an item, she did stress that she was not in the habit of talking about her personal life, no matter which representative of the media asked her. Because of this, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that she and Javier chose to tie the knot without first making a public statement like most celebrities tend to do before the big event.
“Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have wed, her rep tells Us Magazine. The two tied the knot in a small ceremony, attended only by close family members, earlier this month at a friend’s house in the Bahamas. Cruz, 36, wore a John Galliano gown. She and Bardem, 41, have been romantically linked since 2007,” Us Magazine writes. As of now, these are the only details available on the surprise ceremony. However, chances are the couple will release a few photos of themselves on the big day, word in the blogosphere has it.
“‘He’s a friend and the best actor in the world,’ she once told reporters of her Vicky Cristina Barcelona costar. She has mostly been mum about their relationship. Last year, when David Letterman tried to grill her about Bardem, she replied: ‘I don’t feel comfortable talking about my private life in public... I’ve been here a few times with you, you know I’m tough. One thing I don’t do, I don’t lie about my personal life. It’s sacred to me. It’s my life. But I don’t give details about it because I am allergic to that’,” the same mag further writes, giving two instances of how Penelope tried to keep her relationship out of the tabloids and the media in general.
As of late, more and more stars have been getting married in secret: another surprise ceremony was that between former “Transformers” stunner Megan Fox and one of the original “90210” stars, Brian Austin Greene, who tied the knot in Hawaii. Fox too would often say that she would never do a big wedding – and the first photos of the ceremony show that, indeed, she went for the smallest and most intimate possible.
