Penelope Cruz is jaw-dropping gorgeous in the photospread that comes with the June 2011 issue of Vogue magazine. The interview is meant to promote her part in the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” but it’s the topic of motherhood and not said part that gets her to really open up.

Penelope and husband Javier Bardem welcomed their first child, a baby boy they named Leo, earlier this year but, until now, the actress has refused to talk about him with the press.

She tells Vogue that she doesn’t want the media and the public prying into her personal life and ruining Leo’s in the process: he should not pay the price for his parents’ choice of a profession.

“I want my son – and my kids if I have more – to grow up in a way that is as anonymous as possible. The fact that his father and I have chosen to do the work that we do doesn’t give anybody the right to invade our privacy,” Penelope says.

She’s not exaggerating, either: so far, she’s managed to keep most details of her life out of the media, including her wedding to Javier, the pregnancy and even Leo’s birth.

It makes sense why she wants to keep a lid on her life at home: she’s always been very media shy. As of late, she’s also very emotional, especially when it comes to her recent role as a mother – and she bursts into tears when she’s asked how motherhood has changed her.

“One second. This has never happened to me. This is really funny. I’m sorry. It’s unexpected,” Penelope tells Vogue, crying and laughing at the same time.

“From the first second, you feel so much love. It is a revolutionary experience. That’s the best way I can describe it. It transforms you completely, in a second,” she says of the experience.

“Nature is very wise and gives you nine months to prepare, but in that moment – when you see that face, you are transformed forever. [U]ntil it happens to you, it’s hard to understand in your soul,” Penelope adds.
