Looking for the next best weird gadget? The Pelty Bluetooth speaker might be just the thing you have been searching for.

Bluetooth speakers might not be bizarre gadgets on their own, but the Pelty is surely the odd ball out. Why is that? Because unlike your usual piece of technology laying around the house, it is powered by fire.

Pelty gets its name from the “Peltier effect,” which is a thermoelectric effect where voltage gets produced using a device with contrasting temperatures, without the need of cables or batteries.

The system connects to a music player quite easily after you light a candle – just like in the Middle Ages. A standard candle should provide up to five hours of juice to the Pelty, which should be more than enough if you’re planning to throw a little get-together.

As for the sound levels, they are quite comparable to the ones produced to other docking stations.

The idea for the Pelty came to the Milan-based inventor, Gianluca Gamba, as he was busy preparing a romantic dinner for his fiancé and realized he needed some music to create the right atmosphere. Sadly, his traditional Bluetooth speaker didn't really measure up to the occasion.

Pelty is currently gathering up funding on Indiegogo (as spotted at Ubergizmo) and aims to take the $100,000 / €73,433 crown, so if you’re a romantic at heart and also love music, you can go pledge at least $199 / €143, which will secure one of the initial models.
