Earlier this month, we reported that the mobile version of Peggle, PopCap's blockbuster game, should become available starting this fall. Well, now, the game is ready for our (or your) handsets, as PopCap has just announced its commercial availability.

Released until now only for Windows, Mac and iPod, Peggle is a hugely successful game, being downloaded in more than 20 million copies since March 2007. The latest iteration of the franchise, named simply Peggle Mobile, will probably rise to the expectation of fans, as PopCap has surely made it worthy of its predecessors.

In case you're not yet familiar with Peggle, the game is a unique and fun combination of pool, pinball and pachinko (which is a Japanese game). Using your skills, luck and strategic thinking, you need to complete each level as fast as possible, by firing a “silver ball” and clearing orange pegs. The game features various obstacles (both in motion and stationary), dynamic colors, special effects and lots of power-ups.

Talking about the new game, Director of Mobile Business Development at PopCap, Andrew Stein, declared, "Peggle Mobile delivers an on-the-go gaming experience worthy of the award-winning Peggle franchise with a compelling translation that brings all the great action of the PC versions to mobile gamers everywhere. Peggle Mobile raises the bar in mobile gaming, while being integral to PopCap's strategy of providing AAA mobile titles to a range of mobile devices from cell phones, smartphones and PDAs to PocketPCs, iPods, iPhones, and more."

Peggle Mobile is currently available only across the US, via all the important wireless carriers. In the near future (meaning, in the next few weeks), PopCap will also release the game in Canada, the UK and in several other European markets, so that more gamers can enjoy it.
