Pedal for the Metal : the AmpliTube Metal Software

- For pros or enthusiasts

By: Florin Tibu, Audio Editor

It's time for all metalheads to rejoice, with the long expected all-metal-oriented version of the AmpliTube software from IK Multimedia, with a more than obvious name: AmpliTube Metal. After so many years of excursions in the world of vintage guitar tone reproduction and modeling, it seems like the metal sound has finally gained a place of its own, and thanks to IK Multimedia, your shot at fame as a rockstar should be more at hand than ever.

The AmpliTube Metal builds on the widely-acclaimed performance of all AmpliTube pieces of software but takes things further in the realm of modern, high-gain sonorities, bringing a most welcome breath of fresh air in the home studio environment, with the addition of several sought-after tones for your heavy riffing pleasure.

The new software brings now ProCo RAT, Electro-Harmonix Big Muff, Digitech Whammy, several vintage BOSS effects, Randall Warhead, Peavey 5150 or the Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier crunch at your fingertips, and all without you having to spend tens of thousands of bucks for all these history-making guitar heads and pedals.

Just imagine the possibility to have Pantera's late guitarist Dimebag Darrel's screaming Warhead amp within reach and even more, being able to double-track it via the Swedish Metal's iconic brutal gain of the Peavey 5150... And then, just for a blistering lead, switching to the all time favorite Triple Recto bruise distortion! How could things get cooler than that?

And that's not all by far, because the AmpliTube Metal will also let you build your custom racks and stacks: you get 14 stomp boxes, 5 amp models, 13 cabinets and 6 mics, 9 rack FX and a tuner to arrange your live or recording rig just the way you've ever dreamed of doing... without cluttering endless cable runs through your room! And if you feel like going up on the stage with the AmpliTube Metal by your side, there's nothing simpler: it can be controlled via the StompIO for a truly usable setup in live situations.

The AmpliTube Metal is available for just under $270 and a tad cheaper ($230) for the crossgrade version. Here is a small gather-up of the AmpliTube Metal features:

-5 separate modules: tuner, configurable Stomp pedal board, Amp head, Cabinet + Mic, and Rack Effects
-14 rare Stomp effects with highly acclaimed distortion models
-5 classic high-gain Amps
-13 cabinet and 6 microphone models
-9 post-amp FX Racks
-2 fully configurable rigs with up to 32 simultaneous effects
-Digital tuner
-Stand-alone and VST/AU/RTAS plug-in for all popular DAWs
-Includes SpeedTrainer™ for playing along with or your favorite recordings
-Includes AmpliTube X-GEAR for seamless integration with all the other "Powered by AmpliTube" products, MIDI control and StompIO integration
-Powered by AmpliTube® with exclusive DSM™ (Dynamic Saturation Modeling) technology
-Mac OS X (including Leopard) and XP/Vista compatible.

Check the manufacturer's website for detailed specs, video and audio demos and more.
