Pebble is a nice device that's one of the best-selling smartwatches available on the market. Even with the recent release of Android Wear devices, Pebble is still among the most popular smartwatches out there.

In order to remain competitive on a market that will soon become very crowded, Pebble has decided to add some new features to its smartwatch to make it even more appealing.

Two new software updates have been released by Pebble today, each with its own changelog that promised a range of new features and several fixes that have been in the pipeline for quite a long time.

First of all, in order to update Pebble you will need the new firmware version 2.9, along with the Pebble application that's been updated to 2.3 iteration.

The new Pebble application comes with several major improvements that will bring the smartwatch up to date when it comes to productivity.

You need to install both updates to benefit from the new features

The most important seems the Android Wear Notifications, which will allow Pebble users to reply and act on this type of notifications. Keep in mind that, in order for this feature to work, you will need firmware version 2.9 or higher.

Pebbler-defined replies is a new feature that enables users to set their own replies to notifications. The application also introduces the option to reply from Pebble using most Android-supported SMS messaging apps.

Support for Android 4.0+ devices has been added as well, along with automatic app and watchface updates when Pebble is idle. UTF-8 support in PebbleKit JS has also been confirmed and many will be pleased to hear that Pebble fixed issues with WhatsApp notifications.

The new firmware version 2.9 will also bring Android actionable notifications, which basically adds support for actionable notifications and Android Wear compatibility for Pebbles paired with Android smartphones running Ice Cream Sandwich or higher and the Pebble Android app 2.3.0 or higher.

Both the firmware and the Pebble application updates will bring lots of bug fixes and stability improvements as well.
