Pebble, a door-opener for the smartwtach market, is getting an upgrade

The Pebble was, in a sense, the reason things like Samsung's Galaxy gear and the Sony Smartwatch came to be. After all, it sold pretty well and was very well covered by the media, even without Pebble doing anything other than launching a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign.

Now we've learned that the smartwatch has been refined, given a metal frame and the name Pebble Steel.

It has a 144 x 168 mm e-paper display (led-backlit), an interface with four buttons, and a battery that lasts for 5-7 hours days on a single charge.

The watch part is angular and blocky, with a slightly retro form and with a solid look to the buttons. It also has a black strip around the side, to accent the silvery gleam of everything else. Also, the band is made of leather.

The specs haven't otherwise been changed from Pebble to Pebble Steel, although there are some new iOS apps to choose from. Android will get them a bit later.
