One of the first grunge bands has shown that what they used to call in one of their hits 'evolution, baby' is actually nothing but evolution gone bad. Recently, the rockers have declared their support for such causes as renewable energy, climate change and carbon emissions.
Currently on a worldwide tour that will end in November, Pearl Jam has constantly monitored the energy required to move from one venue to another, the electricity the members used in their rooms in various hotels and the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere while traveling by car.
Stone Gossard, the bassist, told the 'Seattle P.I.': 'We can get a relatively accurate picture of what it looks like over a year, and it's a considerable amount of carbon. We emitted about 5,000 tons of carbon on our last tour'.
From the environmental foundations that are to benefit from the band's generosity, most of them are situated in the area of their hometown, Seattle. 'Cascade Land Conservancy' and 'EarthCorps' are only two out of the nine organizations that will receive money in support for their various environmental projects.
