Grunge longevity

If you are a Pearl Jam fan and own Rock Band, you definitely need to circle September 20 on your calendar. And, if you already have a mark to distinguish it, then add another one, as, in addition to picking up the new album of the band, called Backspacer, you will also be able to get your hands on it as a set of playable tracks from Rock Band.

The grunge band are truly embracing new technology and the music-video-game scene by putting their songs out at the same time in the virtual world as they do in the real world. The only caveat is that only those who have the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band will be able to pick the downloadable content on Sunday, September 20. Those who plan to play the songs on the Nintendo Wii need to wait until the 21, while those music lovers who plan to play the game on the PlayStation 3 will need to hang on for a further three days.

The full track list for the DLC is: “Gonna See My Friend,” “Got Some,” “The Fixer,” “Johnny Guitar,” “Just Breathe,” “Amongst the Waves,” “Unthought Known,” “Supersonic,” “Speed of Sound,” “Force of Nature” and “The End.” These 11 songs will sell as a package for 17.99 dollars, which is 1,440 Microsoft Points for those dealing in company money, while those who are interested in only picking up one of the songs can expect to spend 1.99 dollars.

Pearl Jam is pushing the digital-real-world integration even further. Their physical album, which can be picked up at Targt, is offered in a special, limited edition, which also includes the codes needed to get Backspacer for Rock Band for 29.99 dollars. Whether or not you are a fan of Pearl Jam, you have to admire their forward-looking stance.
