The PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony managed to see its sales more than double in one week, thanks to the launch of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, selling 59,315 units in the first seven days the new Hideo Kojima game was on sale. Sony must be happy to also see the PlayStation 3 home gaming console register an increase in sales just as Super Street Fighter IV was released, going from 25,629 to 32,874.

The Nintendo Wii has sold more consoles than during the previous week as new videogame launches succeed in shaking up the charts. The gaming gadget moved 30,757 units in seven days, while the DSi LL, the best seller of the handheld Nintendo family, managed to reach sales of 25,569.

The DSi has also seen an increase to 15,628, while the older DS Lite reached 4,068, which is lower than the number of Xbox 360 home consoles Microsoft moved in Japan.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker did not actually take the first place in videogame sales in the country. That honor went to Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, a spinoff of the well-known role playing Square Enix made series, which managed to sell around 624,000 copies in its first week on sale.

Meanwhile, Konami and Hideo Kojima must be pleased to see Peace Walker moving 434,000 units to gamers. Another new launch, Super Street Fighter IV from Capcom for the PlayStation 3, succeeded in taking third place, with sales of 81,000 copies.

New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii is the game leading the pack of followers, sitting in fourth place with sales of 44,000 units. The Xbox 360 version of Super Street Fighter IV is in fifth, shifting 28,000 units. The number one from last week, Nier Replicant, fell to ninth place in the software chart with sales of 21,000.
