Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the PlayStation Portable exclusive videogame, is set to be released on the North America market on May 25, 2010. The title was also confirmed as coming on March 18 in Japan, but there has been no date confirmed for the European version of the game.

Peace Walker has been supervised from the beginning by the legendary Hideo Kojima, the man who created the Metal Gear series and put together some of the most immersing gaming experiences on the PlayStation platforms. Peace Walker is a first because it arrives on the PSP with an original story and with the stated aim to expand the backstory of the series while introducing the players to new gameplay mechanisms and new challenges.

David Daniels, who is the director of marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., has stated on the announcement of the release date that “Featuring an original story created by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a title that has serious sales potential. Kojima Productions has pushed the limits of the PSP system and we cannot wait to unveil their latest addition to the Metal Gear franchise to gamers this coming May.”

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will allow players to get into the combat fatigues of Naked Snake as he heads to the remote nation of Costa Rica, which has been under attack by an unknown but heavily armed military force. Snake, who is just returning from his adventures in the PlayStation 2 title Metal Gear Solid 3, will be able to rely on his Militaires Sans Frontieres buddies and will begin the process that then leads to the appearance of Outer Heaven as an idea. The game will allow up to four people to play cooperatively via the PSP ad hoc system.
