In order to celebrate the third anniversary of Payday, developer Overkill Software is holding Crimefest, an event with several reward milestones dictated by the amount of members the Payday 2 Steam group gets.

Today, the Swedish video game making studio has announced that it will give away the original Payday game for free on October 18, in order to celebrate hitting over 1 million members.

Payday is a cooperative multiplayer first-person shooter that tasks a team of player with pulling off a heist and getting as much greenbacks as possible, with a variety of firearms available and several types of missions and thematic interactions such as getting arrested while playing and having your teammates release a hostage so you get back to the action and a large pool of random events programmed in every single level.

The announcement comes from the Payday 2 Steam group, which you can also join if you want to nab some free in-game loot.

"1,050,000! This means that for 24 hours on October 18th, PAYDAY: The Heist will be free to download here on Steam," the developers posts.

The original Payday: The Heist will be free to download and then keep forever on October 18, the day that Overkill's Crimefest begins.

There are a ton more stretch goals waiting to be crushed as the group grows, such as various DLC heists, day and night modes and weapons.
