Swedish developer Overkill Software has announced The Walking Dead, a cooperative shooter to be published by Starbreeze, and has also released a nice (very creepy) trailer for it.

Overkill Software is the company behind Payday and its sequel, so it has a lot of experience when it comes to cooperative shooters, and by the looks of the trailer, it doesn't plan on taking it easy.

The game announcement has revealed that the upcoming game will have role-playing elements, as well as a pretty well-developed survival aspect, and a lot of crossover with the rest of The Walking Dead franchise.

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman even shows up to say what a big fan of Payday he is, and to assure its fans that he will be working closely with the development team, to make sure that all the important bits in the franchise are done just right, keeping the same overall tone and atmosphere.

To celebrate the announcement, Overkill is adding a special weapon to Payday 2, the barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat that fans of the long-running comic series are no doubt familiar with.

It's good to see that the upcoming The Walking Dead game intends to keep up with the heart-wrenching ways of Telltale Games, the makers of the narrative-driven adventure titles set in the same universe.
